Beyoncé Just Pulled a Beyoncé and Dropped a Brand-New ‘Lion King’ Song

If there’s one thing we’re sure of, it’s that Beyoncé is queen. And her new single from the Lion King film has proven that fact once again.

Disney released the single “Spirit” yesterday (July 9), and revealed it is part of the movie's soundtrack, as well as The Lion King: The Gift—a new album of tracks produced and curated by the 37-year-old musician herself.

The new song became available on streaming services shortly after Beyoncé (accompanied by daughter Blue Ivy) arrived on the red carpet for the world premiere of Disney’s live-action The Lion King, in which she lends her voice to the character of Nala.

Just last month, Jon Favreau (Lion King director-producer) teased that new Beyoncé music would be coming.

“There's a song that she performed and wrote in the spirit of the production along with working with Lebo M., who's part of it with Hans Zimmer,” he said in an interview with Fandango. “They were all collaborating with her and helping to bring this new piece of music into a film where there's already a very established musical personality to the piece. So it was nice of them to have them working with her to allow the new song to feel organically a part of the new production.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard music from the soundtrack however. Late last month, the Grammy winner’s rendition of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” with Donald Glover finally appeared in one of the teaser trailers

And if that song made you emotional (like us), then we suggest you ready your ears, because “Spirit” will do the same. Listen to the full (four-and-a-half minute) song above.

Now could we maybe get a cameo from Blue Ivy singing The Circle of Life on the album? We’re optimistic.
