Alicia Keys Drops Emotional New Anthem Dedicated to Essential Workers

Right now, the world needs music, and Alicia Keys is happy to provide.

Keys just debuted a brand-new song called "Good Job" and dedicated it to essential workers. She posted the photo-filled music video on her Instagram after premiering the new piece during CNN's Global Town Hall on Thursday.

In the video, the "Girl on Fire" singer plays the piano, while powerful images showing empty cities and essential workers on the front lines appear on the screen.

Keys shared a long post including some heartfelt words for her 19 million followers. "I believe in us though, I believe in the way we are showing up for each other and caring about each other. The way we are all connected more than we’ve ever been before," she wrote. "This is for you. You’re doing a good job!"

While the song is new to many, Keys actually wrote it months ago (with help from her husband) and featured it on her 7th album, ALICIA. The tune was originally inspired by the most important people in her life—her family and friends.

"It has always been such a personal song and such a poignant song," she told CNN. "And every time I play it, I want to cry because I’m thinking of my mother, I’m thinking of my grandmother, I'm thinking of friends of mine who can’t make ends meet."

She decided to extend that dedication to healthcare professionals, delivery people and even parents taking on the role of teacher. The 15-time Grammy winner paid tribute in her lyrics with lines like, "You're doing a good job/Don't get too down/The world needs you now/Know that you matter, matter, matter..."

The song is part of CNN’s Heroes campaign, which aims to highlight ordinary people (like many featured in the visual piece). We’re happy to have an anthem to bring some light into a dark time.
