Alicia Keys in a Turtleneck Dress Is a Very ‘Why Is Winter Still Happening in May?’ Mood

What does one wear for an outing with Oprah Winfrey? Some might rock a power suit and others might take a page out of Oprah’s very own playbook and go with a high-low blouse. Alicia Keys, however, perfectly encapsulated our feelings about this increasingly strange spring weather—in dress form.

The 38-year-old, 15-time Grammy winner attended the Hollywood Reporter’s Empowerment in Entertainment event yesterday in Los Angeles. There, she presented Winfrey with the Women Empowerment in Entertainment Award for her efforts to champion inclusion and diversity behind and in front of the camera.

To dole out the award, Keys wore a black-and-white striped turtleneck maxi dress from Marc Jacobs that aptly communicated: “It’s unseasonably cold.”

A woman after our own heart, Keys accessorized the au-courant look with black combat boots that remained comfortably hidden under this Marc Jacobs creation. The back of her tonal number featured an exaggerated bow-like detail, which was more easily discernible on her Instagram (as were her boots). The dress is from Jacobs’s fall 2019 runway collection.

Posing at Keys’s side was Oprah, looking every bit the bees knees in a buttercup yellow sweater and pleated skirt combo. She accented the look with gold pointed-toe T-strap heels, yellow-framed glasses, an armful of yellow-gold bracelets and gold hoops with freshwater pearl teardrops.

Spring: Apparently the one time of year it makes sense to wear a turtleneck or a chiffon skirt.
