This Dairy-Free Milk Is Made from Bananas (and You Can Buy It at Aldi)

We’re not experts on plant-based milk (or mylk, if you will), but we’ve dabbled in enough oat- and almond-based beverages to know a thing or two. And yet we were surprised to learn that there’s another dairy-free milk on the market that we’ve never heard of before, and it’s made from bananas.

Mooala Bananamilk, which the brand says tastes like “liquid banana bread,” is made from a combination of bananas, sunflower seeds and cinnamon. (It’s also available in chocolate and strawberry flavors.) That means it’s vegan and dairy-free, yes, but it’s also nut-free and allergy-friendly. It has the same consistency as regular milk, so you can use it just like any other plant milk—in your cereal, in a banana-on-banana smoothie or in your coffee. (Although, we’re not entirely sold on banana coffee just yet.)

According to Instagram account @aldi.mademedoit, bottles of the bananamilk have been spotted at Aldi, but Mooala’s store locater indicates that it’s also carried at a pretty large selection of grocery stores—so if you’re not near an Aldi or yours is fresh out, don’t despair.

Full disclosure, we haven’t tasted this bananamilk (yet), but if it lives up to the “liquid banana bread” claim, we might ditch our baking habit…temporarily, of course.
