Just because most stars “attended” the 2020 Emmy Awards from the comfort of their own homes it didn’t stop them from dressing to the nines. Take for example Kerry Washington, who wore not just one stunning ensemble, but two. Part way through the night, the actress/producer (and now official Emmy winner) swapped out her original strapless floral Oscar de la Renta gown for a fitted gold Dolce & Gabbana frock embellished with black beaded and sequins. Our favorite detail from her two outfits were the gold, dangling earrings she wore for the first half of the evening.

The gold and green drop earrings are actually made entirely of recycled sterling silver and are part of a new collection from eco-conscious jewelry brand Monica Vinader in partnership with influencer and sustainability advocate Doina Coibanu. But they weren’t the only sustainable pieces Washington wore that evening. She also sported a selection of rings from the NYC-based brand AUrate.

A big part of the fun of Washington’s earrings, and the entire Monica Vinader x Doina collection, is that they’re interchangeable. Yep, the gold chain earrings and vibrant green gems are actually sold separately and can be worn multiple different ways. Those brilliant green charms can be slipped off and added to a bracelet or necklace instead, or stacked on the end of one drop earring for a cluster effect.

While it’s always fun to see the extravagant ensembles and designer duds celebrities pull out for red-carpet events like the Emmys, the idea of a nearly $8,000 dress that will likely be worn only once (unless Cate Blanchett’s latest habit catches on) isn’t all that relatable or eco-friendly. We love that Washington took this opportunity to showcase two sustainably-minded jewelry brands. And while the $465 price-tag for her award show earrings isn’t exactly affordable, we could see these versatile stunners being worth the splurge.
