Congratulations to the Class of 2023! It’s been months since fans said goodbye to their favorite teen Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and the rest of Sherman Oaks High in the fourth and final season of the popular Netflix series, Never Have I Ever (which premiered on June 8, 2023).

After all, we were there for the ups, the downs and the most embarrassing moments. (The coyote incident will forever live in our heads rent-free.) Now that Devi’s high school years have come to an end, we still find ourselves thinking about her and the person she might have become since going to college. Does Devi finally end up with the boy of her dreams? What does her journey to self-confidence look like after she graduates from high school?

Keep reading to find out everything we know about Never Have I Ever season four.

1. What Was Never Have I Ever Season Four About?

The fourth season picked up where the previous season left off, where viewers last saw Devi (spoiler alert!) hooking up with Ben (Jaren Lewison) after using the “One Free Boink” card he gifted her during the school year.

As predicted, the fourth and final season had some steamy (and messy) drama in store for fans. For one, Devi got ghosted by Ben after they slept together and she ended up having an unexpected romantic rendezvous with the school’s bad boy. Oh, and did we mention she sent her teacher to the hospital? You know, classic Devi.

Back in February 2023, Ramakrishnan sat down with Insider and teased what fans should expect from the last season. At the time, the 21-year-old actress revealed that the new season will end on a “cathartic” note. “We’re diving deep and the stakes that you feel usually in the middle of a season, we’re starting there,” she told the publication.

2. When Did Never Have I Ever Season Four Premiere on Netflix?

On April 13, 2023, Netflix unveiled the first official teaser for Never Have I Ever season four on social media. Toward the end of the trailer, the streaming service also revealed the release date for the final installment. The caption read: “Senior year starts this summer [flaming hot emoji]. The final season of Never Have I Ever premieres June 8 only on Netflix!”

3. Who Returned for Never Have I Ever Season Four?

For the fourth season of Never Have I Ever, fans saw some familiar faces from previous seasons, including Ramakrishnan (Devi Vishwakumar), Poorna Jagannathan (Nalini Vishwakumar), Richa Moorjani (Kamala), Lewison (Ben Gross), Darren Barnet (Paxton Hall-Yoshida), Lee Rodriguez (Fabiola Torres) and Ramona Young (Eleanor Wong).

4.  Were There Any New Faces?

In the summer of 2022, it was announced that Love, Victor star Michael Cimino would join the cast of Never Have I Ever season four as Ethan aka the new heartthrob of Sherman Oaks High. Along with a screenshot of The Hollywood Reporter article announcing the news, Cimino shared an Instagram post with the accompanying caption: “It’s been incredible to work with such amazingly talented people, and I’m really excited for you guys to see all of the new stuff in 2022.”

5. Has Never Have I Ever Been Renewed for a Season Five?

Sadly, no. Back in March 2022, Never Have I Ever co-creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher shared a personal letter with fans on Instagram, revealing that the fourth season will be the show’s last.

“Plus, we’ve been renewed for a fourth and final season, which we are absolutely thrilled about,” they wrote in the letter. “We can’t wait to reveal all the steamy romance and hilarious adventures we have in store for you. Thanks to all our fans for your support—especially you #Bevi and #Daxton stans. We love you!”

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Kaling candidly revealed that the show ending after four seasons “just made sense.” The Office alum continued, “They can't be in high school forever. We’ve seen those shows. Like, you've been in high school for 12 years. What is going on here? Also, the actors get older and it starts looking insane that a 34-year-old is playing a 15-year-old.”

Never Have I Ever Season 4 Ending Explained

The plot for Never Have I Ever season four revolves around Devi preparing to go to Princeton University. Earlier in the season, Devi wrote a letter to the school (after getting waitlisted) explaining why the school has always been a shared dream for her and her dad.

In a surprising turn of events, Devi gets accepted for the fall semester. Fast forward to the season four finale, Devi graduates from Sherman Oaks High School students, and the season three finale shows the grad spending the summer with her family and friends before she heads to Princeton.

The night before she leaves, Devi attends Nirmala’s wedding ceremony, where Ben finally confesses his love for Devi and she returns the sentiment. (#TeamBenvi, for the win!) The episode ends with Devi going to school in New Jersey while Ben attends Columbia University in New York, which is just a train ride away. And everything ends happily ever...after?

Is This the End of the Never Have I Ever?

Based on how the series ended, many viewers felt there was hope for an additional season. In the final scene of the series, John McEnroe (who serves as narrator) says in the background, “So, this is John McEnroe live from Princeton, New Jersey signing off. For now.” Um, what does that mean?!

McEnroe’s choice to use the words “for now” to end his message led some fans to believe that this may not be the end of the series. Despite the fact that Kaling has shared her desire to end Never Have I Ever after four seasons, we can’t help but wonder: Is there a possibility there could be a spinoff in the future?

While Kaling hasn’t confirmed the possibility of a spinoff, she doesn’t seem closed off to the idea either. While speaking to PopSugar in August 2022, the co-creator shared that she would be open to doing a spinoff, telling the outlet, “I absolutely would consider doing that if there was a demand,” she said at the time. “I’ve never thought about a spinoff actually. It’s a fun thought experiment, but I haven't actually thought of one.” You hear that, Netflix?

The fourth and final season of Never Have I Ever is streaming now on Netflix.
