This New Romantic Thriller Series on HBO Is Next Up on Our Must-Binge List

What would it be like to share a mind—thoughts and all—with your significant other? HBO Max’s new series, Made for Love, explores exactly that.

Based on the novel by Alissa Nutting, the eight-part program tells the story of a 30-year-old woman desperate to escape her suffocating life as a wife and human guinea pig for an experimental project about love. If that sounds confusing, just wait until you watch the full trailer below.

HBO Max’s official synopsis reads, “The comedy series is a darkly absurd and cynically poignant story of love and divorce following Hazel Green, a thirty-something woman on the run after 10 years in a suffocating marriage to Byron Gogol, a controlling tech billionaire. Soon she discovers that her husband has implanted a monitoring device—the Made for Love chip—in her brain, allowing him to track her, watch her and know her 'emotional data' as she tries to regain her independence. Through the chip, Byron's able to watch Hazel's every move as she flees to her desert hometown to take refuge with her aging widower father Herbert and his synthetic partner, Diane.” Yikes.

And if you’re anything like us, you probably instantly recognized the lead, Cristin Milioti, from her latest film Palm Springs. In addition to Milioti, the series also stars Billy Magnussen (The Big Short), Dan Bakkedahl (Life in Pieces), Noma Dumezweni (The Undoing), Augusto Aguilera (The Predator) and Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond).

The first three episodes of Made for Love became available on HBO Max on April 1, followed by the next three on April 8 and the season will conclude with the final two episodes on April 15.

We’ll be there.
