‘Heartstopper’ Star Joe Locke Teases What’s to Come for Charlie in Season 2

New year, new Charlie.

In a new exclusive interview with Netflix, Heartstopper star Joe Locke shared that fans will see a whole new Charlie in the second season. Last season, the character struggled to keep his relationship with popular kid/rugby player Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) a secret from his friends and the rest of the school.

But, everything will be different this year. “The most obvious thing that’s bigger in Charlie’s story this season is an outward confidence in both himself and his relationship,” Locke revealed.

While fans know Charlie to be shy and reserved, the 19-year-old actor revealed that audiences will “see more of feisty Charlie” in season two. “Charlie is probably the most confident character in the show. I’ve learned a lot about confidence from him,” Locke added. “About the different types of confidence, and how you don’t always need to be an outwardly extra confident person to be confident in who you are and believe in staying true to your morals.”

However, Locke is the most excited for viewers to see a new side of Charlie and Nick in the upcoming installment. “They’re very much getting more comfortable with each other, [being] in each other’s space…I’m excited for people to see that teenage relationships can be mature and open and communicative,” the actor explained. “There’s often this idea that teenage relationships aren’t those things.”
