Our Favorite New Show Just Got Renewed for Season 2 and We’re *So* Excited

Our favorite teachers will be returning for a second school year at Abbott Elementary.

That’s right, the hit ABC comedy series has been renewed for a second season. The sitcom stars creator Quinta Brunson as Janine, a Philadelphia teacher working in the public school system. Despite the limited resources available, Janine and her coworkers are determined to help their students succeed.

Brunson stars alongside Tyler James Williams (Gregory Eddie), Chris Perfetti We (Jacob Hill), Lisa Ann Walter (Melissa Schemmenti) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Barbara Howard).

The renewal was revealed by Abbott Elementary’s very own school principal, Ava Coleman (played by Janelle James). The note was posted to the show’s official Instagram page, coming straight from her desk.

Aside from the show’s success, Brunson is trying to make a difference in real teachers’ lives. Earlier this month, the writer and producer sat down with NPR’s Fresh Air and revealed that she used some of the show’s marketing money to purchase school supplies for public school teachers.

“It’s about being able to make those kinds of decisions that really excite me, things that can really materially help people,” she told the outlet.

The Big Mouth alum also partnered with Good Morning America to surprise a Philadelphia teacher with a very special gift. The GMA crew and Brunson visited a third-grade teacher named Xiomara Robinson, who works at Benjamin B. Comegys Elementary School.

Brunson and Scholastic surprised her with a check for $20,000, which can be used to buy books for her students. Wells Fargo also gave $40,000 to the elementary school, which will go toward AV equipment. Lastly, Staples donated a large number of pens, paper and additional supplies.

At the moment, Abbott Elementary is on a short hiatus and will return on Tuesday, March 22 at 9 PM. ABC has not confirmed a release date for the second season.

In the meantime, we’ll be rewatching the first half of season one.
