Meet the DIY Mani That’s Perfect for End of Summer Festivities

August is upon us and with it, the last glorious weeks of summer. And what better way to celebrate those remaining beach days and vacations than with a festive mani to match the mood?

Our friends at Essie teamed up with the founder of Flourshop, Amirah Kassem and celebrity nail artist, Miss Pop to create a colorful manicure that you can easily do at home.

Step 1: Apply a sheer layer of base coat over clean nails.

Step 2: Next, apply two, thin coats of a sheer neutral polish and let dry.

Step 3: Pour a small amount of deep burgundy polish (we used Essie’s “Nailed It”) onto a small piece of tin foil. Then, using a thin nail art brush, paint two to three squiggles on each nail. (The more imprecise, the better.)

Step 4: Clean off your brush by wiping off the excess polish on a paper towel.

Step 5: Repeat Steps 3 and Step 4 with a pale gray, lime green and bright yellow polish.

Step 6: Let your squiggles dry for a few minutes before sealing everything in with a glossy top coat. (Miss Pop warns not to press down too hard with the brush to prevent smudging your handiwork.)

Voila! A vibrant, party-ready mani. A final tip: Switch up the colors to fit any occasion or season. We’re definitely trying a tonal palette of lighter and darker blues for fall.

This Is Summer's Biggest Nail Polish Trend
