Bio Highlights

Dr. Rachel Brem is Professor and Vice Chair of Radiology and the Director of the Breast Imaging and Intervention Center at The George Washington University. Newsweek Magazine ranked her as one of the top cancer doctors in the country. Noted surgeon and television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz described her as a “cancer detective.” She has published over 100 academic papers on the early detection of breast cancer.  

At 24, Dr. Brem graduated from Columbia Medical School and completed her residency in diagnostic radiology and fellowship in breast imaging at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. After her training, Dr. Brem joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins, rising quickly to become Director of Breast Imaging there.

Dr. Brem’s research and clinical interests include minimally invasive breast biopsy and new technologies for the early detection of breast cancer. Specifically, Dr. Brem helped develop new technologies for detecting early breast cancers. These include computer-aided detection (CAD), automated breast ultrasound systems (ABUS), molecular imaging of the breast and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In 2004, Brem founded the Brem Foundation to Defeat Breast Cancer, to support research, education and clinical care. She is an advisor to BeSound, an innovative breast imaging platform launching in Los Angeles in Winter 2026.
