People Have Theories That This Actor Is Secretly Hosting This Year’s Oscars

Now that we're past the initial confusion about who the hell is hosting this year's Academy Awards (spoiler: currently, it's no one), it's time to speculate. What better way to do that than comb the internet for conspiracy theories?

Peter Knegt, a journalist for the Canada Broadcasting Company and a former writer for IndieWire, threw out an entirely unproven (but surprisingly convincing) theory that none other than Whoopi Goldberg will take the stage on Sunday.

Knegt's theory, in his own words: “Whoopi Goldberg's absence from The View (she's sick, they say) since the day after they announced her as an Oscar presenter + the fact that she's the only previous Oscar host listed as a presenter + she openly said on The View in January that she'd be up for hosting = ???”

He then followed up with a correction, plus some more valid evidence:

(FYI, the Oscars will air on ABC.)

Guys, we might be convinced. Think about it: Goldberg has hosted the Oscars four times—in 1994, 1996, 1999 and 2002. If she is hosting, it would be the 25th anniversary of her first gig. It would also mark 20 years since this happened.

Can't you just picture her dresses as Queen Anne to announce The Favourite?

Bringing out Whoopi Goldberg as host would certainly be one way to distract everyone from the whole Kevin Hart controversy. Meanwhile, Knegt is basking in his revelatory tweets: "Never started an actual conspiracy before. Turns out being stoned and watching The View IS PRODUCTIVE."
