Whether you’re a Shark or a Jet, you’re going to love this news. Because we finally have a first look at Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story.

20th Century Fox released the first photo from the movie musical, which follows young love and the tension between rival gangs the Jets and the Sharks on the streets of 1957 New York.

The film, which is currently in production, stars Ansel Elgort (Tony) and newcomer Rachel Zegler (Maria) as the leads with Justin Peck choreographing the iconic dance scenes. Spielberg is directing and producing the film while Pulitzer Prize-winner Tony Kushner (Angels in America) is adapting the Broadway musical for the big screen.

In the photo, (from left to right) we see Jets members Anybodys (Ezra Menas), Mouthpiece (Ben Cook) and Action (Sean Harrison Jones); Jets leader Riff (Mike Faist); Baby John (Patrick Higgins); Tony (Elgort) and Maria (Zegler); Maria’s brother and Sharks leader Bernardo (David Alvarez); and Sharks members Quique (Julius Anthony Rubio), Chago (Ricardo Zayas), Chino (Josh Andrés Rivera), Braulio (Sebastian Serra) and Pipo (Carlos Sánchez Falú).

Oh, and did we mention Dance Moms alum Maddie Ziegler has also signed on to portray a member of the Jets gang in the remake?

Walt Disney Studios is set to release the film in December 2020. So if you need us, we’ll be dusting off our leather jackets.
