The Notebook: It wasn’t over, it still isn’t over thanks to the theater.

The beloved 2004 romance film based on Nicholas Sparks’s hit novel of the same name is being adapted into a musical and guess what? Its leading lady was just announced.

No, Rachel McAdams isn’t returning to portray the iconic role of Allie. But the woman who is has starred in everything from High School Musical to Grease: Live and Rent: Live. It’s Vanessa Hudgens.

According to Entertainment Tonight, the 30-year-old actress is set to play the lead in the first reading of the play at Vassar and New York Stage & Film’s annual summer play development incubator.

No word yet on whether Ryan Gosling will reprise the role of Noah (probably not, sadly), but we do know This Is Us supervising producer Bekah Brunstetter is penning the book. “Girls Chase Boys” singer Ingrid Michaelson is writing the music.

Michael Greif (Rent, If/Then) will direct the show, which also stars Jelani Alladin (Frozen), Nicholas Belton (Natasha), Candy Buckley (CabaretI), Antonio Cipriano (Jagged Little Pill), Hailey Kilgore (Once On This Island) and two-time Tony winner James Naughton (Chicago). Kilgore plays young Allie, and Naughton plays older Noah. It’s not yet known who the remaining cast members play, but we can’t wait to find out.

The one-time reading of The Notebook will take place Sunday June 23, at 3 p.m. ET. Looks like we’re heading to Poughkeepsie, New York.
