Did the ‘This Is Us’ Showrunners Just Hint that Uncle Nicky Has a Child?

If you’ve been keeping up with This Is Us, then you’ve probably heard that theory that Cassidy (Jennifer Morrison) is Uncle Nicky’s (Griffin Dunne) daughter. To add to the intrigue, Uncle Nicky launched into a rare monologue about how his trailer has sentimental value during this week’s episode. He explained that he bought it in hopes of starting a family with his war sweetheart, Sally. But just when we thought he was going to say they had a daughter, he revealed that his plan never came to fruition. For those hell-bent on believing that Cassidy is Nicky’s daughter, it was a bit of a letdown. But thanks to a hint from the This Is Us showrunners, we’re not giving up hope just yet.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, This Is Us showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger revealed that a major new story line is in order for Nicky this season.

“I think he had some happier times in the pre-Vietnam section of his life,” Aptaker explained. “We actually have a story coming up down the line that I don’t want to say too much about, but it shows one of the best days in Nicky’s life. So he’s not all doom and gloom.”

Interesting. People often say the day they become a parent is the best day of their lives, so it could be possible that Nicky still becomes a father down the line. It might be a stretch, but who knows?

As for whether we’ll meet Sally this season, Aptaker said, “It has been discussed. It has been bandied about it. Nothing’s off the table.” We’re going to go ahead and take that as a yes.
