This is not a drill: A Destiny's Child musical is in the works, according to Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles.
This announcement comes on the heels of the premiere of Beyoncé’s highly anticipated Coachella documentary, Homecoming, where she and fellow Destiny’s Child alums Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams took the stage for a reunion performance that had us begging for a comeback. Now, almost 30 years since the group’s 1990 inception, fans will get a behind-the-scenes look at how one of the most iconic girl groups of all time was created in Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical.
As the co-creator and manager of the original band, Mathew Knowles opened up about his plans in an interview with Broadway World: “I want to pull back the curtain. I feel it’s time to give the world an opportunity to hear, see and feel the victories and failures that I’ve had as a husband, father and manager who risked everything in pursuit of fulfilling dreams—those of mine and others.” Told from his perspective, the musical will follow the group from their humble beginnings to their platinum-level stardom.
