Showtime Renews ‘Shameless’ for Season 10 & a Key Character Is Returning

When one door closes another one opens—especially on Shameless.

Showtime announced today during a Television Critics Association panel that not only has the show been renewed for a tenth season, but it’s also bringing back a beloved character.

Although we’re very much bummed that Emmy Rossum (Fiona Gallagher) is departing the long-running series, we’re happy to report Cameron Monaghan (Ian Gallagher) is returning.

Monaghan left Shameless last year when his character was sentenced to two years in prison and was reunited with the love of his life, Mickey (Noel Fisher). (So romantic).

The 25-year-old actor penned a lengthy goodbye on Instagram to his role in October and ended his statement with, “Goodbye, Ian Clayton Gallagher. We’ll meet again?” It seems that Monaghan knew something we didn’t…or he just made a very lucky guess.

Either way, with the new season order, Shameless is now the longest-running series to ever appear on the network.

Showtime executive Gary Levine expressed the company’s excitement that Shameless will live on in a press release, saying, “The Gallaghers are a force of nature, and they are coming back. Shameless with its ever-growing fan base, is like no other show on television. We are thrilled it will live on with its unique blend of love and larceny on Showtime.”

Executive producer John Wells added, “All of us on Shameless are delighted that we get to tell more wonderful Gallagher stories—and thankful to Showtime for their continued support. We can’t wait to get back to work with this extraordinary cast.”

And we can’t wait to watch it.

Shameless airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
