SJP Just Explained These Iconic Mismatched Shoes from ‘SATC’

It’s been 15 years since Sex and the City aired its final episode. And now, Sarah Jessica Parker (known in our household as just Carrie Bradshaw) finally answered a burning question that been haunting us for years: Why did Carrie wear a pair of mismatching shoes in season three, episode 13?

It all started when a SATC fan account (@everyoutfitonsatc) shared a photo of the fashion moment on Instagram and wrote a really, really deep caption speculating why Carrie wore two different Christian Louboutin heels—one pink, one blue.

The most important part of the caption read, “Did Carrie buy these mismatched sandals straight off the rack? Or did she purchase two separate pairs and mix them together herself. Are they a metaphor for her inability to choose between Aidan and Big?”

The scene takes place in season three, episode 13 of the popular series, when Carrie is walking alongside Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) during a girl’s trip to Los Angeles. We couldn’t help but wonder, would Parker actually give us clarity on this (seemingly) eternal question?

“Here is the official answer and I’m sure approved by the great and legendary @patriciafield,” SJP wrote, referring to the show’s costume designer. “We had two pairs of what I believe are @louboutinworld scrappy sandals. Pat and I chose to do one of each. Perhaps because both were so delicious in color and seemed in harmony with the dress but also because we simply loved doing one of each. Sending my best. And hope this is a satisfactory answer.”

In the wise words of the @everyoutfitonsatc Instagram account, “The shoe god has spoken.”
