All the Royal Protocol Beyoncé Had to Follow When She Met Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

The earth-shattering moment that was Meghan Markle and Prince Harry meeting Beyoncé and Jay-Z... Will we ever get over it? Probs not. 

In the wake of a slew of duchess sightings last week, we've been met with an "all quiet on the royal front" this week. So excuse us while we simmer and stew over every little detail of the Beyoncé-Meghan interaction, won't you?

The latest revelation to pore over regarding the epic encounter: That Buckingham Palace sent the entire Lion King cast, including Beyoncé and Jay-Z, a long and strict list of rules to follow for the duke and duchess's appearance at the European premiere red carpet on Sunday in London.

As much was revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday by Lion King star Billy Eichner, who explained that with all the rules from the palace, the cast was all "kinda nervous, even Beyoncé" about meeting the royals.

"They should be bowing to her," Kimmel interjected.

"That’s true, actually. She’s our American royalty," Eichner replied. Yassss, Billy!

Then, in a more serious tone, he explained: "But what makes you nervous is that in the days leading up to it, they email you a protocol of how you're supposed to greet Prince Harry and Meghan, and they were very intense about it. I’m not kidding."

"You’re supposed to say ‘Your royal highness,’ you can’t speak until your hands are like in a handshake with his, my plus one, my guest I brought with me, my very good friend Jared, they said, he had to stand behind me and not speak unless he was spoken to," Eichner revealed. "I’m not kidding. I’m like, does that same rule apply to Jay-Z? I have a feeling it doesn’t."

"'Your Royal Highness' feels weird and bowing feels weird, and in my head I kept thinking she's 'Princess Markle,' but that sounds like a character on Super Mario Brothers," Eichner laughed. Princess Markle...LOL. That's a new one.

But after all those nervous jitters and the strict protocol each cast member had to follow, Eichner revealed that Harry and Meghan "were very, very nice and totally chill and down to Earth and lovely."

And Beyoncé said the same thing after her and Jay-Z's encounter with the duke and duchess, saying "they are so sweet" to reporters, according to Rebecca English of The Daily Mail.  

The two couples hugged (which, there goes the protocol list!), chatted about babies, Archie's latest milestone, Rumi and Sir's whereabouts and just looked so dang excited to be in each other's presence.

Protocol, schmotocol. It's Beyoncé, after all. (Sorry, Buckingham.)
