Princess Anne Responds to ‘The Crown’ Actress Who Claims Her Famous Updo Takes ‘Two Hours’

Princess Anne is setting the record straight on her iconic hairstyle.

In an interview with Town & Country last year, Erin Doherty, the actress who portrays a teenage Anne in Netflix’s The Crown, revealed that recreating the Princess Royal’s updo would take hours at a time.

"Makeup literally took 10 minutes, but hair, sometimes it would take two hours. Literally, I would sit in the chair, people would come in and go and come in and go, and I sat still in the same place," she told the outlet. "But it was so necessary for her character because it felt like her hair and her fashion were the way that she was able to express herself in the confined, controlled environment that she grew up in.”

As it turns out, the 69-year-old royal got word of the interview and revealed in her new latest documentary for ITV called Princess Royal: Anne at 70 that the look isn’t really that hard to achieve.

"Actually I read an article the other day about the, I don’t watch Netflix and The Crown, but the actress was talking about how long it took them to do their hair like I did," Anne said in the documentary, according to People. “And I'm thinking, 'How could you possibly take that long?' I mean, it takes me 10 or 15 minutes.” Seems like hair and makeup could benefit from Anne’s help.

In honor of her 70th birthday, Queen Elizabeth's only daughter will be the focus of the new film for ITV. Per the network, the 90-minute film "tells the story of a royal mold-breaker, a princess who refused to follow the script” and features first-person interviews from her children—Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall—as well as unseen family footage from the princess’s private life.

Maybe we’ll get footage of the princess actually perfecting the hairstyle.
