Prince Harry Was Already Considering a Non-Royal Life Back in Summer of 2019, According to Dr. Jane Goodall

#TBT to last July when Prince Harry interviewed Dr. Jane Goodall, the renowned ethologist and primatologist known for her study of wild chimpanzees, for Meghan Markle’s special guest edit of the September issue of British Vogue. The news that wasn’t fit to print back then? Apparently, Prince Harry was already mulling over a possible royal exit long before he made it official this past January...and mentioned it to Goodall during their chat.

In an interview with the Daily Mail’s Weekend Magazine, Goodall brought up her meeting with Prince Harry back in 2019 during a global leadership meeting at Windsor Castle. She explained that, at the mention of his new son Archie, Harry seemed confident he would grow up free from the traditional pomp and circumstance of royal life.

“At the end [of the conversation] Meghan came in to listen with Archie,” Goodall said. “He was very tiny and very sleepy—not too pleased to be passed from his mummy. I think I was one of the first to cuddle him outside the family. I made Archie do the Queen's wave, saying, ‘I suppose he’ll have to learn this.’ Harry said, ‘No, he’s not growing up like that.’”

Was Harry already exploring the prospect of walking away from royal life all the way back then in summer of 2019? It sounds like it. And now that he and Meghan are no longer senior royals and have officially relocated to Los Angeles to start their new life, it’s clear Goodall was privy to their inner thoughts ahead of time.
