Prince William and Kate Middleton finally revealed the names of Prince Louis’s godparents, but one question still remains: Why were Prince Harry and Meghan Markle excluded from the bunch?
In honor of Prince Louis’s christening today, the palace announced that the royal couple chose Lady Laura Meade, Hannah Gillingham, Lucy Middleton, Nicholas van Cutsem, Harry Aubrey-Fletcher and Guy Pelly as the baby’s godparents.
Social media immediately blew up with questions about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s lack of involvement. Nevertheless, the announcement should come as no surprise to royal aficionados.
Per tradition, new parents are supposed to appoint godparents outside of the immediate family, which is why Prince Harry is just an uncle—not a godfather—to both Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
