Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles are officially back to business—in public, that is.

Although the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall never really stopped working, today marked the duo’s first public engagement since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic (they did, however, attend a private service in honor of VE Day in May). The royal couple spent the morning visiting Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, where they thanked key staff who have been working on the frontlines.

According to Clarence House, HRH and his wife spoke to a range of healthcare professionals including clinicians, volunteers, junior doctors and members of the domestic team (from a safe social distance, of course).

“There is nothing like being able to thank the NHS staff face to face even if the choreography is a little bit different! They are Britain at its best,” Camilla said during the outing.

We reported last week that other members of the royal fam will shortly follow in Charles and Camilla’s footsteps. Per a tweet by royal reporter Rebecca English, Prince William and Kate Middleton “are also looking at scheduling in a small number of face to face official events.”
And while this is definitely a start, it doesn’t mean things are completely back to normal just yet. The majority of their work will still be conducted via video conference calls “for the foreseeable future.”
It’s good to see these two doing what they do best.
