This Common Post-Workout Habit Could Be Making You Gain Weight

woman working out

You go to all the effort of working out and you’re still not seeing results. What the hell?!

According to Monica Auslander Moreno, MS, RD, LD/N, nutrition consultant for RSP Nutrition, a common post-workout mistake could be hindering your progress.

It’s eating whatever you want after a workout.

“Often, people say, ‘Oh, I just did a spin class, so I’m entitled to eat X,’ or, ‘I can’t eat that. I didn’t work out today,’” Auslander told us. “Your food intake and exercise output are not like a bank account. Of course, nutrition and fitness are related, but they’re not the same highway. We exercise to attain fitness, for mental health, for social reasons, for fun and for empowerment. Not to eat/not eat things.”

OK, but what if you’re ravenous after a particularly tough boot camp? What should you eat? For optimal results, focus on healthy fats and clean proteins found in these six foods

You shouldn’t deprive yourself of little indulgences here and there, but don’t use a spin class to justify three scoops of ice cream, OK?
