Greg Daniels, Creator of ‘The Office,’ Just Dashed Our Dreams of a Reboot

As much as we’d love a reboot of The Office, series creator Greg Daniels says it’s not gonna happen.

Daniels, who developed the original British series for American audiences, revealed the single reason why he doesn’t plan to bring the hit comedy back in a recent interview.

First, he explained that, yes, there were talks with NBC about rebooting the comedy, but it was deemed relatively “impossible.”

“There was a lot of misunderstanding, because NBC just did an exact reboot of Will & Grace and then we started talking about doing something more with The Office,” Daniels said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “And at that time the cast were doing things that would make it impossible to get them all back to do more episodes of The Office—even if they wanted to.” Steve Carell (Michael Scott), John Krasinski (Jim Halpert), Ed Helms (Andy Bernard) and Ellie Kemper (Erin Hannon), and the rest of the cast are pretty busy.

Despite the cast’s busy schedules, Daniels said he honestly wouldn’t want to revive the series, which ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013, anyway. Why? He explained, “My biggest concern would be disappointing the fans. People will watch the entire series and then roll right into watching it again, and to me that means we ended it properly.”

Guess we’ll just have to be grateful that the entire series is available to stream on Netflix. Oh, wait. It’s leaving the streaming platform in 2021. Now we’re really disappointed.
