Heartwarming Video Shows Quarantined New Yorkers Applauding for Healthcare & Other Essential Workers

New Yorkers are honoring healthcare workers on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic by giving them a citywide round of applause.

Over the weekend, locals of New York City (which is experiencing one of the worst outbreaks in the entire country) took part in the #ClapBecauseWeCare initiative to thank doctors, nurses, first responders and other essential workers for their commitment during this time. On Friday at 7 p.m., residents across all boroughs joined in a two-minute-long round of applause from their terraces, rooftops, and front steps. On Saturday, the applause reportedly lasted almost seven minutes.

This show of appreciation is taking place around the world as healthcare workers and other essential employees continue to risk their lives to help fight against COVID-19. According to The Guardian, at 8 p.m. on Thursday, millions of people in the U.K. (including some members of the royal family) stood at their front doors and open windows and clapped together to show gratitude.

In a video posted on the Clarence House Instagram Story, Prince Charles virtually joined wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, to show their appreciation for those in the medical field and Kensington Palace also shared a never-before-seen video on Twitter, featuring the Cambridge children, Prince George (6), Princess Charlotte (4) and Prince Louis (1), applauding for the camera.

In uncertain times like these, its great to see the community coming together.
