Welcome to Instagram, Matthew McConaughey

Move over, Jennifer Aniston. There’s a new A-list Instagram user in town, and his name is Matthew McConaughey.

On his 50th birthday, the actor decided to follow in the Friends star’s footprints and join the social media platform. (We’re not sure if there’s something about turning 50 and joining the ’Gram, but we are totally here for it). He even posted his first official video.

For his first post, he shared a clip of himself revealing what he hopes to use his account for, while also admitting that he was a little bit nervous about doing so.

See the post below.

“When people come to my page, I want them to see me,” McConaughey said. “This is my first venture into sharing myself and my views with the world and I’m a little bit nervous about it because quite frankly, I know I want to have a monologue, I’m not sure I want to have the dialogue, but I’m learning that you have to have the dialogue to have the monologue, just as you have a monologue to have the dialogue. I’m looking forward to sharing who I am with you. I’m looking forward to seeing if who I am translates…if what I want to share translates, if it tickles your funny bone, if it makes you think a second, if it makes your heart swell up a little bit, if it makes you take a quiet moment and go for a walk … Let’s have some fun with it though.” Seems like he already is.

As expected, celebs and fans quickly flooded the comments section with birthday (and welcome) wishes. “Woohoo!! Instagram just got so much BETTER,” Reese Witherspoon wrote.

The Serenity actor is actually no stranger to social media—he’s been an active member on Twitter since 2009.

First Aniston, now McConaughey? We like where this (Instagram trend) is going.
