Royal Unveiling Goes Awry and King Charles’s Reaction Is Caught on Camera

Something stole the show during one of King Charles’s recent appearances. (And no, it wasn’t the monarch himself.)

Earlier this month, the monarch (74) and his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles (76), traveled to Wales for an official outing. At one point, they stopped by Theatr Brycheiniog to unveil a brand-new plaque celebrating the king’s return to the theater after opening the facility in 1997. However, the unveiling didn’t go according to plan.

During the unveiling, Mark Drakeford (First Minister of Wales) introduced the monarch and his wife. They were standing next to a plaque that was covered with a delicate red cloth. “We’ve come to that always slightly daunting moment when there is a plaque to be unveiled,” Drakeford said, “but first we have to do the unveiling.”

Right on cue, a rogue gust of wind spoiled King Charles’s moment. The wind blew the red cloth off the plaque and onto the floor before the monarch had a chance to do it himself. The king laughed off the incident and jokingly said, “Should we unveil it?”, when the staff promptly re-covered the plaque. (His reaction can be seen at the 1-minute mark in the above video.)

The king and queen made a series of stops during their trip to Wales, in addition to Theatr Brycheiniog. After visiting Brecon Cathedral, the couple parted ways for solo engagements. King Charles toured the Brecon Barracks, while Queen Camilla learned more about a domestic abuse charity, Calan DVS.

The wind has spoken.
