The Beautiful Reason Prince William and Kate Just Tweeted a Lone Green Heart

If you've been keeping tabs on Kate Middleton and Prince William's Twitter feed this week, then you may have noticed the random emoji. On Wednesday, the royal couple tweeted a single green heart without adding any text and it garnered more than 4,ooo likes. Countless fans also responded with green heart emojis—but what does it all mean?

Well, it seems the green heart isn't random at all, because the same emoji is used to commemorate the Grenfell Tower fire in London. The tragic incident, which happened in 2017, took 72 lives. And in December 2017, the Prince and Princess of Wales honored the memory of those who were killed while attending the National Memorial Service.

Also, given the recent Nottingham attacks, it's likely that the green heart—which represents support and unity—was also used to acknowledge the tragedy, which led to three deaths.

This is far from the only gesture of support the royal family has shared over the years. Back in 2017, a few days after the Grenfell Tower fire, the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince William visited Grenfell and met with locals affected by the tragedy. The queen also issued a statement that read, "My thoughts and prayers are with those families who have lost loved ones in the Grenfell Tower fire and the many people who are still critically ill in hospital."

She continued, "Prince Philip and I would like to pay tribute to the bravery of firefighters and other emergency services officers who put their own lives at risk to save others. It is also heartening to see the incredible generosity of community volunteers rallying to help those affected by this terrible event."

The green heart tweet comes just a few days after Prince William visited the charity, Centrepoint, to open new housing for homeless youth. Centrepoint's CEO, Seyi Obakin, told People magazine, "He wants to hear people's stories, and he wants to find out how he can help and how much more he can do."
