Prince Harry Used an *Interesting* Emoji to Impress Meghan Markle While They Were Dating

An emoji probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the royal family, but it turns out that Prince Harry is a big fan of them. And there's one emoji in particular that helped him win Meghan Markle's heart.

According to Finding Freedom, a new biography of the Sussexes by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, Prince Harry's private messages were typically light-hearted and fun. A passage from the tell-all book reads, "His messages were often short and full of emojis, in particular the ghost emoji, which he often used instead of a smiley face. For what reason? Nobody knows. But Meghan found his texting etiquette funny and adorable, just like the prince."

In case you're unfamiliar with the ghost emoji, you've most likely seen it on your phone during Halloween season. The icon is more silly than scary, showing a white ghost with its arms raised and tongue sticking out. Most people tend to use it to convey something scary or the act of "ghosting," but it looks like Prince Harry definitely succeeded at making the spooky emoji his own.

According to a spokesperson for Markle and Prince Harry, neither of them have officially confirmed these reports about Prince Harry's texting habits. However, they're based on the findings of members of the royal press corps.

The duke and duchess first met in July of 2016, after they were introduced by a mutual friend. And only a few months later, the Royal Kensington Palace confirmed that the twosome were official. The statement was followed by a wave of public appearances together and, in 2017, the Duchess of Sussex made her first public statement. She said, "We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us."

Well, fast-forward to the present day and the couple are now happily married and living in California with their son, Archie. Who knew that a spooky ghost emoji could lead to such royal bliss?
