The Prince and Princess of Wales Attend St. Patty’s Day Parade, Where Kate Middleton Celebrates New Role

It looks like Prince William and Kate Middleton didn't want to get pinched, because the two added a festive pop of green to their outfits when they attended the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade at Mons Barracks on Friday, March 17. And it was a big day for Kate Middleton, who was filling her new role as Colonel of the Irish Guards.

The royal couple were seen wearing matching shamrock sprigs in a series of photos that were posted to the royal family Instagram account. In the slideshow, we see the Princess of Wales sporting the festive foliage on her chest, while the Prince of Wales pinned it to his hat.

The caption read, “The Prince of Wales, outgoing Colonel of the @IrishGuards was today joined by The Princess of Wales, the incoming Colonel, at the Regiment’s annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.”

In the caption, they also noted that this is the first time that Princess Catherine has attended the parade as Colonel. The sprigs that she and Prince William were wearing are traditional, and at this year's ceremony, the princess handed them out to the officers, guardsmen and to Seamus—the Regiment’s Irish Wolfhound mascot.

The Princess of Wales sported a teal coat from Catherine Walker & Co., per The Daily Mail. The princess rounded out the look with a matching fascinator, her go-to Gianvito Rossi heels and an Emmy London clutch.

While Princess Catherine has often worn green to this event, the Daily Mail noted that her teal outfit choice was likely a nod to the color of the the Irish Guards’ plume.

During the parade, the Princess of Wales said, “I really couldn’t be prouder to stand in front of you here today. It really is a true honour to be your Colonel. I am here to listen to you, to support you, and to champion you in all you do. This is a responsibility I do not take lightly.”
