They may have been out in the field last week, but now Kate Middleton and Camilla Parker Bowles are back to conducting their royal responsibilities virtually (it was nice while it lasted). The royal duo recently teamed up for a joint video call to kick off Children’s Hospice Week.
To mark the beginning of the charity event, which aims to raise awareness and funds for children's hospice and palliative care services across the U.K., the Duchess of Cambridge joined the Duchess of Cornwall for a video conference with three children’s hospices, including Children’s Hospice South West, Helen & Douglas House and East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH).
During the chat, the duchesses thanked caregivers and learned about the effects of the current pandemic on the care they are able to provide. They also spoke with the Delf family who was recently supported by their local hospice when their son Fraser required end-of-life care.
Last week, Middleton and Bowles both left quarantine for their first public outings since lockdown began. The Duchess of Cambridge made a solo visit to Fakenham Garden Centre, where she met the center’s owners, before speaking to staff members and learning about the new regulations they must use to keep their visitors safe. The 72-year-old duchess and her husband, Prince Charles, visited Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, where they thanked key staff who have been working on the frontlines.
And while it was nice to see the royal ladies out and about, things are definitely not back to normal. Per a tweet by royal reporter Rebecca English, the majority of their work (like this call, for example) will still be conducted via video conference calls “for the foreseeable future.”
