It's not what you think

Remember when Rose dropped the Heart of the Ocean into the sea at the end of Titanic? Well, Kate Beckinsale’s not trying to dredge it up, despite what her latest outfit might suggest.

For Leonardo DiCaprio’s 49th birthday, Beckinsale, 50, showed up in a dress adorned with a giant fake diamond, which at first appeared like a reference to the iconic necklace from Titanic. However, it was actually a reference to the film in which Beckinsale stars alongside DiCaprio: The Aviator.

Of course, we remember that unforgettable diamond that Kate Winslet wears around her neck in Titanic. However, in case you've forgotten, that jewel was heart-shaped, while Beckinsale's recent accessory was a square cut.

As noted by E!, the giant blue jewel on Beckinsale’s outfit was most likely a reference to The Aviator, particularly one scene in which DiCaprio’s character, Howard Hughes, offers a sapphire necklace to Ava Gardner (Beckinsale).

“It's a Kashmiri sapphire, best in the world, I had my boys all over the damn globe looking for this,” DiCaprio says in the clip below. “I am not for sale,” Beckinsale says in response.

It's a steamy and memorable scene from the film (and clearly it's remained special to fans, given that the clip has racked up over 1 million views on YouTube). Seems Beckinsale wanted to give a wink to this moment.

As far as the rest of her outfit goes, Beckinsale wore a black velvet mini dress, which was adorned with chains meant to look like the chain of the necklace. She had a black bow in her hair and she wore silver platform heels and tights.

We're living for this reference, Kate.
