Don’t Cut Your Hair During Self-Quarantine, According to ‘Queer Eye’ Star Jonathan Van Ness

For the past week, our social media feed has been filled with botched at-home haircut attempts as people try to cope with only “the essentials.” As a result, celebrity hairstylist Jonathan Van Ness is advising everyone to put the scissors down, and he has a totally valid reason behind his request.

The Queer Eye star made an at-home appearance on a recent episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and revealed that his one secret to mastering the quarantine haircut is to avoid it altogether.

“You know, the average human head grows between a quarter of an inch and a half an inch of hair a month,” he said. “So, worst-case scenario, this is going to give you like—what—two inches, three inches of hair. It’s like, try a new look. Maybe you need a shag; maybe you need a new little bit of length.”

Van Ness went on to say that it’s easier to fix a grown-out look versus a choppy mess. “Save your haircuts,” he added. “Because what you don’t want to do is mess up your hair so bad that you’re still growing that thing out after the quarantine.”

On the bright side, everyone is in the same boat, whether it’s a grown-out or botched haircut.
