Elizabeth Smart Consulted on the New ‘I Am Elizabeth Smart’ TV Movie & It's Eerily Realistic

The new trailer for I Am Elizabeth Smart is here, and it provides a stomach-turning, realistic glimpse into the infamous 2002 kidnapping.

Lifetime recently dropped a first-look trailer for the upcoming TV movie based on Elizabeth Smart’s 2002 abduction and the traumatizing nine months that followed. But unlike previous dramatizations of the kidnapping, Smart actually served as an executive producer for the Lifetime film to ensure accuracy. So (disclaimer!) this flick is not for the faint of heart.

The trailer begins in the middle of the night inside Smart’s childhood bedroom and shows a masked kidnapper, Brian David Mitchell (Skeet Ulrich), threatening Elizabeth (Alana Boden) with a knife and leading her out of the family’s home. As the 14-year-old begs for her life, it cuts to a clip of the real Elizabeth Smart saying, “I am Elizabeth Smart. You may think you know my story, but you don’t.”

We’re thoroughly terrified.

I Am Elizabeth Smart premieres on November 18 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
