Here's Why Hermione (Not Hiram) Might Be the Gargoyle King on ‘Riverdale’

hermione lodge riverdale season 3

If I could ask anything about the CW’s Riverdale, it would be: who is the Gargoyle King and when can we move on to some other villain?

The popular series returned last night after a month-long hiatus, and while many believe Hiram (Mark Consuelos) is the mysterious villain that has been haunting Riverdale, I feel like we’re missing the bigger picture: Hermione (Marisol Nichols).

Why? Hiram’s ego is as big as ever…he’d own up to being the Gargoyle King if he could. You see, Hiram has been accused on multiple occasions—like in Archie’s (K.J. Apa) hallucinations—and he always denies it before dropping a subtle line, encouraging “Mija” (aka Veronica) to think bigger.

Hermione, who is now the mayor of Riverdale, is the center of it all. After agreeing to Hiram’s quarantine order (or so we think), she basically disappeared right as all hell broke loose.

And while it seems like Hiram is doing all the dirty work, we know the Gargoyle King doesn’t do anything himself. He enlists people to do “quests” for him, ultimately remaining anonymous to everyone around him.

So, is Hiram the Gargoyle King’s minion, ultimately making Hermione the real king queen? All signs point to yes.

Riverdale returns to the CW next Wednesday, January 23, at 8 p.m.
