‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Trailer Debuted During the Super Bowl, and We Know What Happens to June

Wake up, America (and we don’t mean because it’s Monday and you haven’t had your second morning coffee yet).

The new trailer for season three of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale premiered at the Super Bowl and gave us alllll the chills.

It opens with a (seemingly) bright and sunshiny morning. “It’s morning again in America,” the narrator states. “Today, more women will go to work than ever before in our country’s history.” Sounds great, right? WRONG.

The voiceover starts to loop over images of fire and violence, and we get the feeling we’re trapped in the nightmare that is Gilead. “Wake up, America, morning’s over,” June (Elisabeth Moss) says. The camera cuts to thousands of handmaids in military formation in front of the Washington Monument, which is now a giant white cross.

It seems June/Offred may have finally joined the house-cleaner Marthas to help others like her escape from their handmaid lives. ICYMI, the 12-second teaser that premiered on Friday foreshadowing this Super Bowl spot showed June wearing the Marthas’ typical green-gray robes as opposed to the handmaids’ vivid red ensembles.

If past seasons are any clue, the show’s third season will premiere sometime soon, probably this spring. (Yep, you won’t have to wait very long to “wake up” to season three…bless.)
