Eva Mendes’s Daughters Gave Her 2 Very Avant Garde Makeovers During Quarantine

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling’s daughters may not have futures as makeup artists, but we wouldn't count out lucrative careers in abstract painting. The couple’s two children, Esmeralda (5) and Amada (4), have taken to using their mother's face as a canvas during quarantine, although the looks are far from how Mendes typically does her makeup, even as creative director of her beauty brand, Circa.

In an Instagram post on May 3, Mendes declared, “I’ve lost any control I once had. Anyway...” alongside a photo of her face covered in some rather bold makeup (or face paint, we're not entirely sure). Then, just yesterday, she took to social media to again show off her daughters’ handiwork. The very ‘80s deep turquoise eyeshadow and lilac lipstick look better than expected, but their application of two different blush colors and an asymmetrical pattern of dark gray liner to Mendes’s forehead leave something to be desired. Of course, it doesn't really matter so long as they're having fun, something the actress seemed to confirm with her caption, “They’ve won,” followed by a heart emoji.

Unlike many celebrities navigating their way through COVID-19 quarantine, Mendes and her children are actually used to staying out of the public eye. In fact, back in 2014, publications were unable to confirm that Mendes and Gosling were even expecting until days after little Esmeralda was born (although rumors had been swirling in the months prior). Her second pregnancy was also kept very much under wraps. Details about their nearly 8-year-long relationship are few and far between with each of them attending movie premieres and product launches largely without the other in tow. They don't grant interviews all too often (outside the usual movie tour for Gosling), but Mendes has gone on the record about her experience with motherhood a few times over the past five years.

In a reply to an Instagram comment left by an inquisitive fan, Mendes explained why she won’t post any photos of her daughters (just their artistic endeavors): “Since my children are still so little and don't understand what posting their image really means, I don't have their consent. And I won't post their image until they’re old enough to give me consent.” And in an interview with Women’s Health she revealed that it wasn’t until falling in love with Gosling that she even considered having children. When asked what happened to change her mind she replied, “Ryan Gosling happened. I mean, falling in love with him. Then it made sense for me to have…not kids, but his kids. It was very specific to him.” Swoon.

It looks like Mendes and the girls are making the most of their time confined to home. Here’s hoping that Gosling is also getting in on the multi-colored fun...and that there are photos Mendes is willing to share with the rest of us.
