Let's get down to business, so we can watch this trailer one HUN-dred more times...get it?!
Disney just dropped the first teaser trailer for its live-action Mulan remake on July 8, and OMG: It's logged an epic amount of traffic so far. In its first 24 hours, the trailer garnered more than 175 million views (placing it in the top-ten most-viewed trailers ever). The 175 million stat is second in the Disney live-action remake arena only to The Lion King (which garnered a record-shattering 224 million views during its debut last November). Mulan's trailer received 52 million views from China alone, and is the seventh most-watched trailer of all time, according to Deadline.
And we can totally understand why. It's got everything. From the matchmaker in powdered makeup telling Mulan what "qualities" make a good wife, to the battle scenes where Mulan disguises herself as a man, we're flooded with nostalgia for one of our favorite Disney movies.
While Eddie Murphy's Mushu is nowhere to be found (nor do we get a good glimpse of the beloved animated version's characters like cricket, Mulan's grandmother or her army friends: Yao, Ling and Chien Po), the trailer does provide giant, sweeping backdrops and colorful costumes that make our eyes do somersaults (just like Mulan does on the battlefield).
According to Screen Rant, the new movie won't include the iconic soundtrack or any actual singing by the actors (booo!), but it seems Disney will still try to incorporate the beloved score from the original movie in some way (like how they feature a slowed-down, instrumental version of "Reflection" in this teaser trailer).
The remake of the 1998 animated classic stars Liu Yifei (Once Upon a Time) as the titular character, Hua Mulan. Jet Li (The Expendables) will play the Emperor of China.
Mulan fights its way into theaters on March 27, 2020. 'Til then, we'll be trying to get "I'll Make a Man Out of You" out of our heads.
