In certain wellness circles, “gluten” has become a dirty word over the past few years. But did you know there’s a super common gluten-free habit that could be even worse for you than eating gluten in the first place?
According to Dr. Mike Roussell, Ph.D., a nutritionist and co-founder of Neutein, it’s equating gluten-free with healthy.
Basically, don’t assume that just because, say, a cookie, is labeled gluten-free that you can go wild and eat five.
“A gluten-free cookie is still a cookie—and probably worse for you than a non-gluten-free cookie,” he told us. “Many gluten-free flours like rice, potato starch or tapioca flour are ultra-processed, refined carbohydrates and completely devoid of nutrients.”
