And Our New Favorite Dairy-Free Ice Cream Is…

Here at PureWow, we’ve made it our very serious mission to try every single dairy-free ice cream that exists (we’re getting there), then report back. We’ve tasted a lot of different varieties but recently discovered the crème de la crème. It’s called Cado.

While most dairy-free options are made with alternative milk like coconut milk or almond milk, Cado starts with a fresh avocado base. Yeah, you read that right.

We spotted the cute pints in Whole Foods, going for $7 a pop, and truly didn’t know what to expect. Like, would the ice cream be green? Would it taste like guacamole? Luckily, neither hypothesis was true. 

Instead, all three offerings—Deep Dark Chocolate, Simply Lemon and Mint Chocolate Chip—tasted a lot like they were made with cow’s milk. Intense flavors weren’t muddied by the taste of dairy-free milk, and the luxurious fatty texture melted slowly like high-end ice cream. 

Did we mention that it’s vegan, gluten-free, soy-free and organic? Cado, we’d call you a show-off if we weren’t so smitten.
