Exclusive: In Honor of J.K. Rowling’s Birthday, Busy Philipps Reveals Her Hogwarts House

ICYMI, it’s Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling’s 54th birthday. And, since Busy Philipps recently found herself in a fake Twitter war with HP character Ron Weasley, we thought it was only fitting to ask her about her Potter proclivities during a lovely crafternoon hosted by Michaels, the arts and crafts store. (Yes, it was an afternoon that involved crafting.)

The 40-year-old actress and host of the erstwhile Busy Tonight show admitted that her daughter Birdie (10) is her family’s resident Potterhead. But although she’s not cracking open a copy of Harry Potter at the end of a long day, Philipps does know what house the sorting hat has placed each of her family members in.

Much to Birdie’s chagrin, Philipps is a Ravenclaw. “She’s just really disappointed that I’m in Ravenclaw,” Philipps shared. “I took the test three times and all three times I was placed in Ravenclaw. I was like, ‘I don’t know what to tell you. Sorry.’”

Why was her daughter so frustrated by Philipps being placed into the ol’ blue and gold? “She’s Slytherin and real proud of it,” Philipps pointed out. “She loves it. Her and her best friend are both Slytherin. Marc [Silverstein, Philipps’s husband] also tested into Slytherin.”

But Philipps isn’t the only non-Slytherin in the household. Her 6-year-old daughter Cricket was sorted into another house entirely. “Cricket is Hufflepuff, because obviously. She’s clearly a Hufflepuff,” she said.

Hey, the sorting hat and its sentient powers are never wrong. Nonetheless, happy birthday, J.K. Rowling!
