Bindi Irwin Explains the Hidden Meaning Behind Her Wedding Dress & Cake

If you loved The Crocodile Hunter (aka Steve Irwin), you’ve probably been drooling over the photos of his daughter Bindi’s wedding. Although she and her new husband, Chandler Powell, were forced to cut their entire guest list due to coronavirus restrictions, that didn’t stop Bindi from incorporating personal details into the nuptials.

In the all-new issue of People magazine, the 21-year-old bride discussed her intimate ceremony, which took place at Australia Zoo. Bindi revealed that there were two wedding details that stood out to her the most: the dress (which paid tribute to her mom, Terri) and the cake (which was inspired by Powell’s home state of Florida). Bindi explained that she wanted to wear something that resembled the gown her mom wore to walk down the aisle in 1992. Since Terri’s dress was too delicate to be tailored, the bride opted for a modern-day version.

“I wanted something very similar because I’ve admired [my mom’s] dress since I was tiny,” she said. “When I was about 12 years old, I put on mum’s wedding dress and it was really, really special…It’s over 50 years old because it’s been in the family for that long.” Crikey!

As for dessert, Bindi confirmed that the cake resembled a real-life tree stump, which paid tribute to the couple’s passion for wildlife. The flavor was a combination of vanilla and strawberry, which was inspired by Powell’s upbringing in Florida.

“It’s sometimes called the strawberry capital of the world, so the cake was an ode to that,” he said.

Cheers to the happy couple!
