‘Free Solo’ Named Best Documentary Feature at the 2019 Oscars

In 2017, it was O.J.: Made in America. In 2018, it was Icarus. And now, that Academy has crowned a brand-new winner.

Tonight, the 91st annual Oscar Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and Free Solo took home the highly coveted statuette for Best Documentary Feature.

The film was up against Hale County This Morning, This Evening, Minding the Gap, Of Fathers and Sons and RBG.

The Academy first debuted the Best Documentary Feature category back in 1941. Previous winners include Amy, Citizenfour, 20 Feet from Stardom, Searching for Sugar Man and Undefeated.
