Kinsey knew something was amiss when her phone started blowing up with comments about her nephew and a Reddit link with 80,000 views. It was then she saw her nephew James’s Tinder profile and the Thanksgiving photo of them he’d used as his profile pic.
Her first thought upon seeing the post was, “Oh, my God. I don’t want to tell my sister because I think she’ll be embarrassed. My sister teaches kindergarten and she works every Sunday at the church daycare—I mean she’s just a human saint.”
By Sunday it was viral on Twitter, so she called James: “I asked him what was going on and what he was thinking,” she explained. “He said, ‘I’m so sorry, my friends got me on Tinder and they said you have to have a hook to get the ladies’ attention and they helped me write it.’”
She responded like any aunt would and said, “James, get me off your Tinder. I love you, but I’m not here to help you hook up. I’m not your wingman.”
But by Monday the story had garnered national news coverage and Kinsey knew she had to tell her sister. As she explains, “She was like, ‘What?! What is Tinder? Is it a dirty site?’ I said no and I told her what [James] had said,” the actress explained. Her sister only asked that no one tell their mom.
Unfortunately, their mom had already seen it and she had some questions. “My mom called me and said, ‘Ang, I’m here with your Aunt Brenda and we’re watching Fox News. What is this about you and James on the news?’” Kinsey laughed.
But some good did come of the whole situation: Kinsey’s mom took her first selfie and texted her, saying, “Hey Ang, put us on Tender.”
All’s well that ends in a hysterical family story.
