‘The Office’ Star Angela Kinsey Reveals How Sprinkles the Cat Actually Got Her Name

If you know anything about The Office alum Angela Kinsey, it’s that her character, Angela, had a penchant for sweater sets and cats. So, when Kinsey stopped by the PureWow office on behalf of her partnership with Royal Canin and brought a ton of kittens with her, we obviously had some feline related questions for her.

In case you’re unfamiliar, the 48-year-old actress earned her cat lady stripes on The Office because her character was downright enamored with cats. In fact, TV Angela had hordes of them (seriously, she even got kicked out of her apartment for having too many). With such a wide array of cats woven into her on-screen life, we couldn’t help but wonder if Kinsey ever got to name one. Turns out she did, and she has a great story to go with it.

Kinsey recalled, “In the pilot episode, I was the one that kind of came up with Sprinkles’s [name]. The director wanted me to pass out papers, and I had drawn a little cat on a Post-it note, and wrote, ‘You’re invited to Sprinkles’s first birthday party. 4 p.m. in the parking lot.’ I had made up that I’d found a cat.” Pretty genius improvisation if you ask us.

She went on to explain, “I was just sort of in the background, I had a lot of downtime in those early episodes. We didn’t have a ton of dialogue as a supporting cast. And so I’d sort of made up that I found a cat in the parking lot. And I handed that out to everyone, and then Jenna [Fischer, who played Pam Beesly] improvised a line to John [Krasinski, who played Jim], like, ‘Are you going to Sprinkles’s birthday?’ And that was off the Post-it note.” We remember it clear as day, actually.

Kinsey concluded, “So, I guess I did name Sprinkles. Yeah, I did. I named Sprinkles.” Sadly, Sprinkles ultimately lost her life while Dwight Schrute (played by Rainn Wilson) was cat-sitting, but that’s a story for another time.

We love some good Office gossip.
