The Best Leftover Recipes Start with Ziploc, and TikTok’s #UnsealTheMeal Shows Us How

What are the most common leftover ingredients that go to waste? If you said bananas, lettuce and herbs you’re on the right track.

According to Ziploc®, the list also includes apples, tomatoes, berries, potatoes, sweet peppers, green beans, kale, broccoli, mushrooms, pears, asparagus and grapes. Whew. How many of these have you thrown away this month? (Moldy blueberries…guilty.) Whether it’s at the end of the week or after cooking a recipe that only calls for half the ingredients, all too often we’re left with produce in our fridge, freezer and pantry that, without a plan, just goes to waste.

So, we partnered with Ziploc®—the heroes behind our favorite food storage bags—to create #UnsealTheMeal, a TikTok challenge that prompts users to create recipes using leftover ingredients. The idea? Curate a bank of endless recipe options, all in one spot, so that no matter what you have leftover you’ll be able to find a way to use it with #UnsealTheMeal. The challenge showcases that inspiration can come from any type of leftovers, as long as they’re properly stored in Ziploc® Brand freezer bags (check out this guide for tips).

So far, we’ve seen some pretty creative ideas from @cookingwithsheeren’s chicken fried rice (did you know it’s actually best to use cold, leftover rice?) to @newt’s homemade chalupas using meat marinated in a Ziploc® Brand freezer bag. See below for a few of our favorites and don’t forget to join the #UnsealTheMeal challenge today and show us how you use leftover ingredients stored in Ziploc® Brand bags.

1. Homemade Chalupas

2. Chicken Fried Rice

3. Chipotle Chicken

4. Marinated Steak And Grilled Vegetables

5. One Skillet Green Chile Chicken
