I’ve got to admit, I was highly skeptical when I first slipped on the Vuori Ponto Pants. I feel this way trying on most pants though. At just under 5’2’’ with a longer torso than legs and slightly curvier hips and thighs, I’ve grown a wariness for pants over the years because it’s always been a challenge to find ones that fit.

But what a joy it is when I’m proven wrong! Much to my surprise, these pants actually fit my petite pear frame. I was doubly surprised by this because the pants have a straight leg and I don’t usually like the way that looks on me.

Perhaps it’s because the Ponto Performance Pant is technically a men’s pant, so they’re cut a bit more generously? For context, I’m typically a size 26 or 27 in jeans and a size 2 or 4 in other types of pants depending on the brand. Anyway, I wouldn’t have known that these were men’s pants if I didn’t look them up online to buy another pair. But also, the concept of gendered clothing is passé in 2023, no? I frequently shop from the “men’s” and “boys” sections because the fabrics and fit of their clothes are more forgiving than what’s offered to women.

On the topic of a forgiving fit, the material of these pants is incredible. Made with the brand’s “signature DreamKnit™ fabric,” (a stretchy blend of 89 percent recycled polyester and 11 percent elastane), the pants strike that ideal balance between being relaxed enough that you can wear them comfortably for hours, yet structured enough that you don’t look like a total slouch when you’re in them.

I’ve worn these pants on hours-long hikes in the desert and to high cardio dance classes. I’ve worn them on Pilates reformer machines and on spin bikes, and true to their name, they’ve performed in every instance. I also appreciate the drawstring waist, which I can cinch in according to my activity level (and weight fluctuations around the holidays or right before my period when bloating is at its peak).

A year and some months later, my Ponto Performance Pants are still one of the most worn items of clothing in my wardrobe. Sure, they’re not as flashy or as fashionable as some other athleisure offerings out there, but if you’re looking for a solid pair of sweatpants that aren’t frumpy, feel great against your skin and go with pretty much everything, give these a try. You just might be pleasantly surprised.
