New 'The Little Mermaid' Trailer Makes Debut at 2023 Oscars—and It's So Good

It's official: We're ready to be a part of Ariel's world in The Little Mermaid.

In case you missed it, during the Oscars tonight, Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy presented the trailer for Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, featuring stunning underwater scenes and, of course, powerhouse vocals by Bailey.

The two-minute trailer comes just a few weeks after Disney dropped its first teaser. And now, fans are getting a glimpse of several famous scenes, from Ariel's (Bailey) rescue of Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) to her father King Triton's (Javier Bardem) stern reaction. Meanwhile, McCarthy is seen as the villainous Ursula, who makes a deal with the unsuspecting mermaid.

The latter half of the trailer gives viewers an even closer look at the underwater world and, better yet, teases a part of the iconic musical number, "Under the Sea."

The film was directed by Rob Marshall, and it also stars Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina.

While appearing on Good Morning America in September 2022, Bailey revealed that the movie is a "twist on Ariel's strength and powerfulness." She added, "She's just so strong in this film and I'm so grateful to play her."

Additionally, when filming wrapped in 2021, she wrote on Instagram, “I feel so grateful to have experienced this film in all of its glory..it has been the toughest experience being away from everything and everyone I’ve ever known, to feeling self-doubt [and] loneliness, but also feeling such freedom and perseverance as I’ve reached the end. This experience has made me so much stronger than I ever thought I could be.”

The Little Mermaid hits theaters on May 26, 2023, so mark your calendar.
