Netflix’s Newest Tearjerker Is Gonna Be the Movie Everyone Is Talking About

*Trigger warning: This film deals with potentially distressing subject matter*

Just because we’re usually focused on the content that has been streaming on Netflix, doesn’t mean we don’t have our eyes on movies and TV shows that were just released. In fact, we have high expectations for a film that was released on the streaming service today.

Called Pieces of a Woman, the drama centers around a woman learning to live alongside her loss. The drama not only has received rave reviews from critics and viewers alike, but it also includes a star-studded cast (with one of our favorite actresses from The Crown, Vanessa Kirby). Available on January 7, the 2020 film is directed by Kornél Mundruczó and written by Kata Wéber. Oh, and did we mention it was produced by Martin Scorsese?

In a nutshell, the movie tells the story of Martha and Sean, a Boston couple on the verge of parenthood whose lives change irrevocably when a home birth ends in unimaginable tragedy. Thus begins a yearlong odyssey for Martha, who must navigate her grief while working through fractious relationships with Sean and her domineering mother, along with the publicly vilified midwife, whom she must face in court.

As we mentioned above, the film has raked in some stellar reviews from both IMDB (who gave it a 5.8) and Rotten Tomatoes (who scored it a solid 78 percent).

In addition to Kirby, the flick’s cast also includes Molly Parker (1922), Ellen Burstyn (The Excorcist), Shia LeBoeuf (The Peanut Butter Falcon), Iliza Shlesinger (Instant Family), Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems), Sarah Snook (Succession), Steven McCarthy (Mary Kills People) and Frank Schorpion (Arrival).

You know where we’ll be tonight (tissues in hand).
